Refund a Follower

Refunds are not automatically generated at any point. No partial or full refunds are promised when a user chooses to purchase your content. As an Advisor of Sage Advice with accepting donations, you are responsible for making decisions about refunding members and how you want to process those refunds.  Sage Advice won’t refund your followers on your behalf. There are exceptional circumstances that may warrant a Sage Advice-initiated refund and will be determined on a case-to-case basis. 

For purchases that were made, you can manage refunds manually within your Stripe account.

Here are some quick instructions for how to go about this:

  1. Find the Member in Stripe
  2. Go to Payments and hover over the payment you would like to refund
  3. Click the refund icon
  4. Confirm the refund

For purchases that were made via the Sage Advice iOS app, these transactions do not automatically appear on Stripe. For members who purchase through iOS, you will see "Free" transactions in Stripe because they are paying via iTunes. 

Since you cannot directly refund a user paying through iOS, you can offer other ways to refund them if needed such as direct payment through a service like PayPal or Venmo. If the user has already requested a refund from Apple, another option is to reach out to Apple support on behalf of the customer with the case number.

In all cases, refunds are up to your discretion. If a user requests a refund through our support channels, the Sage Advice team will connect that member to you the creator in order to resolve the issue. 

Stripe submit refund requests to your customer’s bank or card issuer. Your customer sees the refund as a credit approximately 5-10 business days later, depending upon the bank. Refunds can’t be canceled after they’re issued. Disputes and chargebacks aren’t possible on credit card charges that are fully refunded.

Stripe will also send an email to your customer notifying them of the refund.

Refunding an iOS Purchase

If your member is requesting a refund on an iOS purchase, you'll want to do the following: 

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
  3. If you see the "Report" or "Report a Problem" button next to the item that you want to request a refund for, click it.
  4. Follow the instructions on the page to choose the reason why you want a refund and submit your request.
